RPM was launched in 1967 by clarinetist [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/Dan+Hill+%282%29]Dan Hill[/url] and ex-[url=http://www.discogs.com/label/Gramophone+Record+Co.+%28Pty.%29+Ltd.]GRC[/url] sales manager Matt Mann. It became a large and independant label in its own right before its parent company was merged with the [l=Gallo Record Company] in 1996.

[b]RPM[/b] is now the division handling Gallo's domestic roster (mostly local artists and compilations), with releases sharing the same catalogue numbering scheme as the [l=RPM Dance] imprint.
