
Kungliga Teatern
[b]Kungliga Teatern[/b] was the official name of (the Royal Swedish Opera) between the beginning of the 20th century and 1997.
[b]'Kungliga Operan'[/b] (The Royal Opera) has changed its Swedish official name twelve times since it was inaugurated by in 1773. Originally named [b]'Kongl. Operan'[/b], after many minor variations on the same theme, the name was changed to [b]Kungliga Teatern[/b] at the beginning of the 20th century and remained so for more than three-quarters of a century. However, since 1997, the official name is [b]'Kungliga Operan'[/b] (The Royal Opera). In common parlance, the theater has always been referred to as .
The new opera house was inaugurated by on September 19, 1898. During the evening of the inauguration, works by Swedish composers were performed; 's The Frontiersmen, scenes from 's Estrella di Soria, and finally a completely newly composed inauguration cantata by as a tribute to the past and the old building.
