Blackground Records
American record label focussing on hip hop / black music. Owned by entertainment attorney and artist manager Barry Hankerson and his son Jomo Hankerson, Blackground was initially founded in 1993 as Blackground Enterprises to release music by Barry Hankerson's niece, Aaliyah. Named Blackground Entertainment until 2000, it switched distribution deals over time - releases were previously distributed by Jive, Atlantic, Virgin and Universal Motown.
Reportedly dormant since 2013, after an aborted campaign to release new music by Aaliyah with current artists and producers such as Drake.
Please look up the logo on a specific release carefully to distinquish which one of these three labels should be used.
