Founded and runs [l=Blackground Records]. He was once a television producer and a politician in Detroit, Michigan. He managed and produced [a=The Winans]
At one time Hankerson was married to [a=Gladys Knight].
He is the uncle of the late R&B singer [a=Aaliyah].
Managed [a=Aaliyah] until 1995 when her dad took over as manager, but she remained on Blackground Records until her death in 2001. He has also managed [a=Toni Braxton] and [a=R. Kelly]
