Gwen Gordy Fuqua and brother Berry Gordy had just established the Tamla-label (soon Motown would follow). Anna Records was linked to both of Berry Gordy's labels and scored a first hit in 1959 with Barrett Strong's smash “197285". The single, originally presented by by Berry's Tamla-label, was re-issued as Anna-Single "1111" to benefit from Anna's already established distribution contacts. Anna Records was finally absorbed into Motown in 1961.
