Anna Records
US R&B and soul label founded in 1958 in Detroit, Michigan by [a=Anna Gordy] and [a=Billy Davis (2)].
For unofficial releases pretending to be on Anna Records, use [l=Anna Records (7)] please.
[a=Gwen Gordy] and brother [a=Berry Gordy] had just established the [l=Tamla]-label (soon [l=Motown] would follow). Anna Records was linked to both of [a=Berry Gordy]'s labels and scored a first hit in 1959 with [a=Barrett Strong]'s smash “[m=197285]". The single, originally presented by by Berry's [l=Tamla]-label, was re-issued as Anna-Single "1111" to benefit from Anna's already established distribution contacts. Anna Records was finally absorbed into [l=Motown] in 1961.
An almost complete overview of the labels output is presented on [r=5346812].
