Central Cuts
Active from approximately 1996 through the early 2000s, Central Cuts was the specialized vinyl imprint of the Australian dance music powerhouse Central Station Records. While the parent company focused on commercial CD compilations, Central Cuts was established specifically to service the domestic DJ market with 12-inch vinyl.
During the late 90s, the cost of importing UK and European 12-inch singles to Australia was prohibitive for many working DJs. Central Cuts solved this by licensing high-demand international tracks for domestic pressing. The label typically released numbered samplers (e.g., Central Cuts 45) that bundled multiple "A-side" club hits and remixes from various international artists onto a single slab of vinyl.
The catalog was a primary conduit for the "Hard House" and "Hard Trance" explosion. Central Cuts frequently licensed material from iconic UK imprints such as Tidy Trax, Tripoli Trax, and Nukleuz.
• Target Audience: Strictly professional club and mobile DJs.
• Sound Profile: High-tempo Euro House, Trance, and Hard Dance.
• Pressing Style: Known for durable, high-output pressings designed to withstand heavy club use on Technics 1200/1210 turntables.
For collectors, original Australian Central Cuts pressings are often the only way to find specific "Radio" or "Club" edits that were unique to the Australian market during the peak of the 12-inch era.
