One of the oldest independent record labels in the United States. Formed in the late 1950s by [a=Leonard Silver], Amherst Records has issued releases by a variety of artists such as [a=Spyro Gyra], [a=Glenn Medeiros], [a=Doc Severinsen], and , [a=Jackie DeShannon], [a=David LaFlamme], and [a=Solomon Burke]. In 1984, Amherst Records acquired all the master recordings of the [l=AVCO Embassy] and [l=H & L Records] labels, which included those of , [a=Van McCoy], [a=The Chambers Brothers], and .
