Married to English-American actress Sally Ann Howes (1958 -1966).
Father of composer Christopher Adler. Nephew of pianist Josef Adler. Nephew of the famous Santly family, Lester Santly, Joseph H. Santly, and Henry W. Santly, all great songwriters as well.

Collaborated often with Jerry Ross. Collaborated with Patrick Adams in the disco project Sine (3)
Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984.
