Karl Schick

German mastering, lacquer cutting and DMM engineer.

Worked in between 1957 and 1984, mainly cutting 7" singles. Between 1969 and 1984, he operated cutting room 2 ("Überspielung 2").
Occasionally, he also worked at [l=Teldec-Studio, Berlin].
After the mastering was terminated in Hamburg in mid 1984, Schick worked at in Nortorf.

His lacquer cuts [u]until 1981[/u] can be identified as follows:
Records with Roman numeral II ("S-II" or "S-II" or "S-II-H" or "S-H-II"), where the H stands for Hamburg and the Roman numeral for the cutting lathe and later for cutting room 2.
Records with Roman numerals III or IV [b]and[/b] H (e.g. S-H-III or S-IV-H), where the H stands for Hamburg and the Roman numeral for the cutting lathe.

His DMM cuts in Hamburg [u]between 1982 and 1984[/u] can be identified by hand-etched "DMM S-II" or "S-II" (always with [b]Roman numeral II[/b]) in the runouts. All his cuts after 1981 were DMM, even when DMM is missing in the runouts.

His DMM only cuts in Berlin [u]between 1982 and 1983[/u] can be identified by hand-etched "S-I-B" or "S-II-B", where B stands for Berlin and the Roman numerals stand for the cutting room.

His DMM cuts in Nortorf [u]between 1984 and 1988[/u] can be identified by hand-etched "S" or "S-N" (N stands for Nortorf).
All his cuts in Nortorf were DMM, even when DMM is missing in the runouts.

[b]Important notes to distinguish his cuts from[/b]
1.) Gerhard Schulze (until 1979): when the hand-etched "S" appears with Roman numeral I (e.g. S-I, S-I-H), please credit
2) Sonopress stampers: do not confuse with "S II" etc. found on Sonopress pressings (e.g. 204184 A-1/82 S II or DMM B-2261 A-2/85 S II)
