After the short period of , a new big band formed from the Las Vegas line-up. This band, sometimes also called 'The New Third Herd' is known in literature by 'The fourth herd', referring to an album title from 1959. This band was nucleated by the Las Vegas band, which was composed of Hollywood studio personnel and a nucleus from the Herman octet.
