De-Lite Records was founded in 1967, by Fred Vigorito, Fred Fioto and Ted Simonetti. It became prominent in Disco, Soul and R&B music.
One of their first signings was [a=Kool & The Gang] whose self-titled instrumental was their first big hit. Subsequently, [a=Kool & The Gang] became the most successful act for the De-Lite label, scoring many hit singles and albums.
In the 1970s, Pickwick International took over distribution of the label and by 1975, disco pioneers, [a=Crown Heights Affair] had signed to De-Lite, releasing a string of hits. At the end of 1976 this distribution deal ended and in 1977, PolyGram became the new distributor of De-Lite which was maintained as an imprint for [a=Kool & The Gang].
In 1985, De-Lite was absorbed into PolyGram sub-label, Mercury Records. By 1998, Polygram merged with Universal Music Group and their subsidiary, [l=Island Def Jam Music Group], took over management of the De-Lite catalogue.
