Duke Records was a record label focusing on R&B and gospel music, started in Memphis, Tennessee in 1952 by [a=David James Mattis] (WDIA program director and DJ) and Bill Fitzgerald, owners of Tri-State Recording Company. It briefly merged with [a=Don Robey]'s [l=Peacock Records], which ultimately took control of Duke and moved it to Peacock's headquarters in Houston.
