Strange Ways Records was established in 1989 by Lothar Gärtner in Bremen as little independent label. Soon after the founding Strange Ways Records moved from Bremen to Hamburg. In 1999 Lothar Gärtner sold the label. Since 2001 is the company Strange Ways Medien GmbH located in the Schlachthofstrasse, Hamburg-Harburg.
Releases distributed by EFA til end of 1992, since 1993 by Indigo. Many catalog numbers starting with 'Indigo' belong to the distributor indigo:inc.
