Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium

Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium, abbreviated DJM (English: The Royal Academy of Music) is a Danish music academy founded 1927 in Aarhus. Established as a private academy, it became a state institution in 1963 at an equal level with 348703 in Copenhagen. On 1 January 2010 DJM was merged with 2022213, Aalborg to form a united academy, also named "Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium", with equal departments located in Aarhus and Aalborg. History
Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium (DJM) was founded as "Det Jydske Musikkonservatorium" by 9207931 in 1927. In 1932 the teachers' college jointly bought the conservatory from Nilsson. DJM started in Søndergade, moved to Kannikegade 12 in 1928, and to Rosensgade 15 in 1937.

In 1944 DJM became an independent institution. In addition to the premises in Rosensgade, DJM gradually used more borrowed premises around the city.
In 1961 a new proper conservatoire building financed by the Århus municipality was inaugurated at Fuglesangs Allé 26.
In 1963 DJM was transformed into a state institution on an equal footing with 348703 in Copenhagen (The Royal Danish Academy of Music), both financially and in terms of educational recognition.

Since the founding DJM was exclusively a conservatory based on classic musical heritage. During the 1960s also the modern art music was included, and in 1972 a brand new course, Almen Musikpædagogik, AM (General Music Teaching), was launched, including the so-called rhythmic music of the younger age groups.

The rhythmic music teacher course (Rytmisk Afdeling, Århus) was started in 1991, in close collaboration with AM. From 1996 "Center for Rytmisk Musik og Bevægelse (CRMB)" in Silkeborg (Centre for Rhythmic Music and Movement), originated in 1986, became a department of DJM (Rytmisk Afdeling, Silkeborg). The building of a new Rytmisk Afdeling (RM) extension at Jens Baggesensvej 90B (a few hundred meters from Fuglesangs Allé) was initiated in 1992 and completed in 1996, and in June 2004 CRMB also moved to this location in Århus.

1 January 2003 447929, established 1987 and located in 24691, became part of the Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium, Aarhus.

In August 2007 all parts of Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium, Aarhus (including DIEM) were united at new facilities built adjacent to the existing 24691. Address: Skovgaardsgade 2C.
