Island Black Music was distributed by [l=I.L.S.], an independent/low-budget music distributor for parent company [l=PolyGram]. In 1998, after PolyGram was acquired by Seagram and merged into [l=Universal Music Group], Island Black, alongside [l=Mercury]'s R&B and hip-hop divisions, were folded into [l=Def Jam Recordings] as a result of the merger of the [l=Island Def Jam Music Group]. IBM's remaining artists, [a=Dru Hill] and [a=Kelly Price], went on to record for Def Jam's R&B subsidiary, [l=Def Soul].
