The Juilliard School is an American private conservatory & performing arts educational facility, established in 1905 and based in New York City. It's often cited among the most prestigious private music programs in North America, on par with the New England Conservatory Of Music, Colburn School, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Eastman School Of Music.

The Institute of Musical Art was started by German-American conductor and pedagogue, Frank Damrosch (1859—1937), son of Leopold Mannes and brother of Walter Damrosch. In 1926, it was renamed to Juilliard School of Music after its main benefactor, American philanthropist Augustus D. Juilliard (1836—1919). After further expansion in 1968 to include choreography and drama programs, the institute became simply "Juilliard School."
