The company behind the imprint is one of the major international music publishers originated from the merger between (founded in the 1760s), and (founded in 1865). The company focuses now solely on music publishing following the sale of the Instrument & label division.

Although Boosey & Hawkes Ltd is still going strong as a classical music publisher, the music from the SBH and Cavendish releases is now under the imprint, which is now held by a separate company -
