Label established by The Rank Organisation, the famed British film production company, in 1959 with [a=Dick Rowe] and [a=Tony Hatch] in charge. An American branch was launched one year later, headed by [a=Bob Shad] and later former [l=Coral] and [l=Brunswick] sales manager [a=Norman Wienstroer]. The label was not very successful in the US apart from recordings by [a=Jack Scott] and productions by [a=Norman Petty]. It had a jazz subsidiary, [l=Jaro Records].
The UK label mainly released licensed material from smaller American labels (i.e. [l=Cameo Parkway], [l=Scepter Records], [l=Swan]) and light pop music; it was closed down in April 1962 after being distributed by [l=EMI] for two years.
Sometimes credited as "Rank International".
A New Zealand branch was taken over by [l=Allied International Records Ltd.].
