In early 1989 Mitsubishi bought out its joint venture partner, ElectroSound, acquiring 100% ownership of the MTI plant.

During December of 1989, negotiations began between Mitsubishi and Disctronics Limited on the sale of the plant, and a deal was closed for March 2, 1990.
