The manufacture of shellacs - and later vinyl records - was from Rio de Janeiro to the outskirts of São Paulo in 1949.
In 1974 the company was renamed as [l=EMI-Odeon Fonográfica, Industrial e Eletrônica S.A.], but some releases were issued under credits of I.E.M. Fábrica Odeon S.A. until 1977. In 1982 the company changes from a "Sociedade Anônima = S.A." corporation to a limited liability company "Sociedade Civil Limitada = Ltda.", changing the name to [l=EMI-Odeon Fonográfica, Industrial e Eletrônica Ltda.] The factory's activities ceased in the late 1980s.

The company also pressed and distributed several other labels, including , [l=Decca], [l=Parlophone], [l=London Records], [l=Polydor] (until 1960), (until 1962), [l=A&M Records] (from 1968 to 1979) and [l=20th Century Fox Records] (from 1963).
