
Janus Records
US record label once owned by [l=GRT] ([i]General Recorded Tape[/i]) Corporation; it distributed the [l=Chess] (as a subsidiary label until 1977, when it was sold to [a=Sylvia Robinson]'s [l=All Platinum] Records), [l=Barnaby Records] (from 1973-78) and [l=Westbound] (from 1970 to 1975, when it switched distribution to [l=20th Century Records]) labels.

Artists who recorded for Janus included [a=Al Stewart], [a=The Whispers], [a=Ray Stevens], [a=Cymande], [a=Pickettywitch], [a=Cissy Houston], and [a=Mungo Jerry]. It also issued the [l=Sonet] recordings of [a=Bill Haley And His Comets] in the US during the Seventies.
The label broke off from GRT just as that company was becoming insolvent; it still exists today only to lease its master recordings to other companies to reissue.
