The roots of the company were established as a non proprietary company in 1925, in Sydney. In 1926 established the first recording studios in Australia at their [url=https://www.discogs.com/label/2189617-Columbia-EMI-Records-Homebush]Homebush factory[/url].

In 1931 [b](EMI)[/b] is formed through the merger of parent Columbia Graphophone Company Ltd. and Following the merger the operations of Columbia Graphophone (Aust.) Ltd. and are brought together under one administrative control with the record production plant of both companies being centralised at Homebush. During the war years the Homebush factory undertook extensive work on electronic devices for the Australian services and the output of the factory provided an important contribution to the Australian defence effort. 

In 1948 proprietary company is formed to takeover the activities of these two branches and becomes the principal company behind Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. Australian operations.
