Damont Records Ltd.
UK record company established in March 1972 by American-born David L. Miller (= Da) and former Pye director Monty Presky (= Mont), issuing budget albums on the Stereo Gold Award and Happy House labels, distributed through UK Record Merchandisers and, later, predominantly through Woolworths.
Copyright holder for the Damont Records Ltd. label.
It was also known as Damont Records (Sales) Ltd.
In 1973, they opened the Damont pressing plant in Hayes. Until then, all records were pressed by Pye’s pressing plant Tranco.
In July 1977, WEA Records Ltd. acquired a majority holding in Damont Records Ltd. by purchasing the shares of Miller.
In 1979, the Counterpoint Group (formerly SP&S Records (Holding) bought Damont from WEA.
In 1982, Monty Presky left the company to become owner and MD of PEI (Production Express International), formerly owned by Damont.
In October 1986, Damont Records was forced to go into receivership because the Counterpoint Group was not able to provide funds anymore. However, already in November 1986, the company was bought by Insulpack Limited and Damont Records Ltd. was subsequently renamed to Damont Audio Ltd.
