Founded in Barcelona as [l=Belter, S.L.] in 1954 by musician and lawyer José Ramón Batallal was renamed [i]Discos Belter, S.A.[/i] in 1962 after a company restructuring.
The company consisted of several record labels, the music publishing company [l=Ediciones Musicales Belter, S.L.], the recording studio [l=Estudios Belter] built in 1965, the pressing plant [l=Fabricsa] the cassette manufacturer [l=Duplicsa] purchases and the in-house graphic design department [a=Departamento Creativo Belter].
[i]Discos Belter, S.A.[/i] also offered distribution services and was a licensee for [l=Motown], [l=PYE Records], [l=Salsoul Records], [l=Prelude Records], (since 1972), etc.
After declaring bankruptcy in 1984, big part of the company's back catalogue was acquired by Divulgación de Cassettes, S.A. ([l=Divucsa])
