Staatsoper Berlin

German opera house in Berlin, today's name "Staatsoper Unter Den Linden".

The origin of this house is its construction between 1741 and 1743 and was named "Königliche Hofoper (Berlin)". After the end of the German monarchy in 1918, the house was renamed in "Staatsoper unter den Linden". In the Nazi-era from 1933 until 1945, the house was named "Preussisches Staatstheater". Between 1945 and 1955, the building had to be reconstructed and was reopened in 1955, getting the name " Traditionsspielstätte der Staatskapelle Berlin". In 1992, the house was renamed again in "Staatsoper unter den Linden" or shortly "Staatsoper Berlin", with as lifetime artistic director due to his contribution for saving the house after 1990.

Note: When the Staatsoper Unter den Linden had to close on 31 May 2010 for renovation, the company and the Staatskapelle Berlin were accommodated in the [l=Schiller Theater, Berlin] (renamed for the occasion) and stayed there for 7 years.
