Founded as Sonic Plates Ltd in 1979.
In 1987 the company was acquired by the Tinsley Robor Group Ltd., whom In 1991 merged Sonic Plates Ltd. with two other group owned companies Mekon (Mekon Artwork Ltd.) and Icon (Icon Communications Ltd.) a creative agency based in London & LA specialising in design and packaging for the music industry to form Sonicon.

Sonicon was based in Slough & Hammersmith, UK, and also had an in house design unit at the EMI Uden plant before ceasing operations there in 1997. It also operated Vent which was a creative studio based within Sonicon which closed in 2003.

Due to numerous parent company merges Sonicon (later AGI Solutions Ltd.) became part of AGI Media which is now a division of ASG (AGI-Shorewood Group) which includes the design and production agency ASG Spark.
