Livingston Studio was set up as a film dubbing studio in New Barnet in 1963 by Fred Livingston-Hogg and run by his partner Ray Kinsey. In 1966 Ray's son Nic Kinsey joined as an engineer and began working with folk producer Bill Leader and the studio became renowned for folk music recording. The studio was bought by Nic Kinsey, Alan Tompkins and Mike Smee in 1978 who set about upgrading the facilities. In 1980 a change of landlord led to a move to its current location in Wood Green, London, UK.
