Opened 15th of January 1964 in a former bank. The "Whisky A Go Go" was the first rock club in Los Angeles. [a=Johnny Rivers], with backing musicians [a=Eddie Rubin] and Joe Osborn, was the very first artist to perform at the Whisky a Go Go, and became the initial house band. Since then the Whisky A Go Go has played host to rock 'n' roll's most important bands, from [a=Alice Cooper], [a=The Doors], [a=Janis Joplin] and [a=Led Zeppelin] to today's up and coming new artists.
The Club was founded by Elmer Valentine (1923-2008), a former policeman from Chicago.
