Backstreet Records

Defunct [l=MCA Records] worldwide sublabel founded early 1979, folded into MCA in 1983. Headed by [a=Danny Bramson], and distributed by [l=MCA Distributing Corporation].

The label's initial signing, in October 1979, was [a=Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers], following MCA's January 31, 1979, acquisition of [l=ABC Records] and its artists. Its roster eventually included [a=Men Without Hats] and [a=Nils Lofgren].

The label was named as such "for acts who want the security and shelter of back streets as opposed to the more crowded thoroughfares."
