Beginning with the 1977 release of 703382, Twin/Tone eventually released over 300 records by over 180 bands, and distributed over 20 smaller regional labels. The label became dormant in 1994 following the release of 2595558, licensing their more popular catalog titles to Restless Records. In 2017, the label put out 1196599, their first release in 23 years.

Twin/Tone is best-known for being the original home of The Replacements, Soul Asylum, Babes In Toyland, and The Jayhawks, amongst others.
