Underground was one of the first major sublabels of Media Records, launched in 1989 as a pop-house label (matrix number's 5**). After a lot of commercial success the label was relaunched in 1996 as the 'younger sister' of BXR, one of the most popular Italian techno-progressive labels.
With a new catalogue number series, this time 10**, and a new logo, the label became a kind of laboratory for a new visions of techno, more experimental and clubby than BXR. In 2000 the label was launched in Germany (these are the -12 matrix numbers).
Both Italian and German divisions folded in 2003.
Restarted in February 2016 after 12 years of hiatus.
