Psychomat
[l=Psychomat] was initially set up as a sub-label to [a=Mr C]’s [l=Plink Plonk Records], run by Paul Rip. [a=Jono Podmore] was working closely with them at the time, producing techno and house, but as his own material was much more diverse it didn’t sit on [l=Plink Plonk Records], so [l=Psychomat] was created for the [a=Kumo] sound. Three 12”s were released: Armed Response, 7 Buckets, Together; and the first [a=Kumo] album, Kaminari on double vinyl and CD back in ’97.
[a=Jono Podmore] was then lured away to Provence to work with [a=Irmin Schmidt] and the greater [a=Can] family. As he swanned around great European cities producing operas, music for films and TV, donning the mantle of Professor der Praxis der Popular Musik, downing litres of Chateauneuf du Pape and Gran Duque d’Alba, and breathing life into the dusty valves of ancient analogue synthesis with [a=Metamono], [l=Psychomat] sat in intellectual cryogenesis awaiting rebirth. That rebirth that took place in March 2017 with the release of 7” Miss Slipper/Lewes with Sound Writer [a=Swantje Lichtenstein], and continues with the Impulsion EP with [a=Reason Stendec].
