
PMI
[b]PMI[/b] ([b]P[/b]acific [b]M[/b]irror [b]I[/b]mage) was an Australian video cassette and optical disc manufacturer active from November 1995 to August 2000.
Not to be confused with , which is also abbreviated "PMI" on some releases.
PMI came into existence when Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch's PMP Communications Ltd acquired the manufacturing plant in Braeside, Victoria by purchasing Shomega Ltd in November 1995. In August 2000, the plant was sold by PMP Communications Ltd to (Southern Star Duplitek) after a significant investment in that company by [l=Technicolor], who later bought out SSD in March 2002 to establish .
[b]Matrix pattern[/b]:
From November 1995 CDs from PMI included the following matrix info (notable are the six-pointed stars ✱):
• [i]IFPI L28# – MADE BY PMI ✱ [release catalogue number] ✱ #[pressing number][/i]
(e.g. '[r2824446]') — the original PMI matrix style included either the mastering SID code IFPI L281 or IFPI L282.
From approximately October 1997 CD and DVD matrices from PMI included a different font and character sequence (notable are the eight-pointed stars ✳):
• [i]IFPI L283 ✳ [release catalogue number] ✳ #[pressing number] MADE BY PMI.[/i]
(e.g. '[r24109460]' — with the mastering SID code IFPI L283 in a smaller font beneath the first eight-pointed star ✳).
