Clarion
Short-lived American record label, active between September 1921 and early 1922.
Clarion was founded by Jacques Kohner in 1921. Kohner previously had worked for Majestic Record Corporation, Paroquette and [l=Lyraphone Company Of America]. The first Clarion (7) releases appeared in September 1921, according to a Clarion ad in the October 1921 Talking Machine World. The last Clarion ad appeared in the same trade journal in December 1921; in January 1922, the Talking Machine World briefly mentions the company one last time, claiming that it has increased its capital from $5,000 to $100,000. Despite its short duration, though, the label released up to 150 titles of dance music.
Soon after their original release on [l=Clarion (7)], many of the same titles were re-issued on other labels such as [l=Cardinal (11)], [l=Cleartone Record], [l=Melva (3)], [l=Meteor (16)], [l=Phantasie Concert Record], and [l=Royal (23)].
