EMI Group Plc was the world’s largest independent music company, operating from the 19th Aug 1996. (Formerly known as Plc). The company operated directly in 50 countries and with licensees in a further 20 and employed over 6,300 people.

The company comprised of three divisions – Group (worldwide retail chain), EMI Music, one of the former top global recorded music companies, and EMI Music Publishing, the former world’s leading music publisher (As of 1996 these 2 latter divisions consisted of 65 record companies and 23 music publishing companies, operating in 37 countries).
