Real Name: Roy Chiao

Well known and prominent Chinese actor in Hong Kong films. Roy Chiao was born 16 March 1927 in Shanghai, China and died 16 April 1999 in Seattle, Washington, USA.

He graduated from university in the late 1940s. He joined the U.S. Army and worked as an interpreter with the rank of a lieutenant .He later became a captain He was also later sent to the Korean battlefield to serve as a translator in the American headquarters. Later he became an actor and with a handful of films under his belt, he was a co-star in the 1959 film "Air Hostess" playing the role of Lei Daying. Also that year he was in "Ferry to Hong Kong" which starred Curt Jurgens, Orson Wells and Sylvia Sims.His role in the film was Johnny Sing-Up, a slick, smooth talking river pirate the partner of the brutish, Mr. Yen, played by Milton Reid. He was Inspector Chiao in the 1967 film, "Five Golden Dragons" which starred Robert Cummings and Klaus Kinski. Chiao was also a plane pilot and assisted with the air shots of the island in the film, "Enter the Dragon". He played a Shaolin Abbott in the film, however, the scene with him and Bruce Lee was cut from the US cinematic release. It was later restored in 1998. Chiao had to record his dialogue for the scene via a digital phone line.

Other films and roles include, the villain Lao Che in the 1984 movie "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", Tanaka in "Blood Sport" (1988) and Uncle Wang in "Tin sai ji shing" (1999). Roy Chiao acted in well over 100 films.

He wasn't born into Christianity but became a devout Christian. He founded the "Artists' Home," a Christian Fellowship for actors in Hong Kong.
