American rockabilly songwriter and singer.
Born December 7, 1924, Muscle Shoals, Alabama, USA.
Died June 2, 2002, Sarasota, Florida, USA.
Bennett often collaborated with John F. Young for songwriting. Bennett charted fives times on songs he and/or his group performed. These songs included "My Boy - Flat Top" (co-written by Young), which charted three times in 1955-56 (#39 U.S. by Boyd Bennett and his Rockets, #16 U.S. by Dorothy Collins and #20 in the U.K. by Frankie Vaughan); "Seventeen", (co-written by Young & Chuck Gorman) (U.S. #72, 1961, Frankie Ford); and "Boogie Bear" (U.S. #73, 1959, by Bennett himself). He also charted with his group with "Blue Suede Shoes" in 1956 (#62 U.S.) (written by Carl Perkins).
