Pixinguinha
Real Name: Alfredo Da Rocha Vianna Filho
Pixinguinha (1897–1973) was a Brazilian composer, arranger, flutist, and saxophonist, widely regarded as one of the most important figures in choro music. Began his career in 1911 at age 14, playing the flute for Choro Carioca. His innovative compositions and arrangements blended African rhythms with European harmonic influences, shaping the foundations of Brazilian popular music. As a member of the group Os Oito Batutas, he helped popularize choro beyond Brazil, and his arrangements introduced jazz-inspired harmonies and orchestration techniques. Among his most celebrated works are "Carinhoso" and "Lamentos", which remain standards in Brazilian music. Pixinguinha’s legacy continues to influence generations of musicians in Brazil and beyond.
