In September 2006, he was named music director for the [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/Orchestre+Symphonique+De+Montréal]Montreal Symphony Orchestra[/url] and replaced [a=Zubin Mehta] as musical director of the Bayerische Staatsoper.
