Real Name: George Spivey

DJ Scratch, real name DJ Scratch, was born on June 21, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York City. He is an American hip-hop DJ and producer best known as the official DJ for EPMD from 1989 to 2015. Introduced to EPMD by Joseph “Run” Simmons during the Run’s House Tour, Scratch joined the group after DJ K LA Boss departed. His skills in cutting and scratching became a key element of EPMD’s sound starting with their second album Unfinished Business (1989).
In addition to his DJ work, Scratch contributed production to tracks such as “Funky Piano” on Business As Usual and later expanded his career by producing for artists like Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Talib Kweli, DMX Krew, and The Rootsman. His transition from DJ to respected producer marked him as a versatile and influential figure in hip-hop.
