In June 1955, disbanded due to internal stress and a lucrative offer from the Las Vegas Riviera Hotel to be the resident big band for the first three months after the hotel opening in September 1955. He formed an octet from the core of the third herd first for playing sessions, on December 1st 1955, they moved with additional musicians as the to the Capitol Studios in Hollywood in order to record the 'Las Vegas Herd' album. The group was disbanded with fulfilling the Las Vegas contract at the end of December 1955.
