
Vladimir Tarnopolski

Vladimir Tarnopolski (b. 1955) is a Russian composer, head of Contemporary Music Department and professor of composition at the [l=Moscow Conservatory], founder and artistic director of [b][/b]. Tarnopolski studied composition at the Moscow Conservatory with [a=Edison Denisov] and [url=https://discogs.com/artist/1627931]Nikolai Sidelnikov[/url].
Tarnopolski's music has been performed by such ensembles as the [a=Symphonie-Orchester Des Bayerischen Rundfunks], [a=Schönberg Ensemble], and conductors [a=Mstislav Rostropovich], [a=Ingo Metzmacher] and [a=Alexander Lazarev]. In 1991, [a=Ensemble Modern] commissioned his [i]Cassandra[/i]. [a=Gennadi Rozhdestvensky] called his [i]Cello Concerto[/i] one of the most important pieces in recent Russian musical history in 1988.
Since 1992, Tarnopolski works as a professor at the Moscow Conservatory, and has been a visiting professor in various schools at Germany, Austria, Holland, Switzerland, and the USA. He founded the Centre for Contemporary Music in Moscow Conservatory (CCMM) in 1993.
