Chris Albertson

New York City-based jazz journalist, writer and record producer (born: October 18, 1931 in Reykjavik, Iceland - died: New York City, April 24, 2019). He worked for radio stations in the USA and for the BBC in London and was a record producer for Riverside Records (their "Living Legends" series), Prestige and Columbia among others. He was the author of a Bessie Smith biography ("Bessie") first published in 1972 (Stein & Day; revised edition, Yale UP, 2003) and produced a multi-volume edition of the her recordings for Columbia. He hosted "The Jazz Set" for PBS and later wrote the scripts for several television documentaries.
