Co-founder (with Horst Weber) of Enja Records in 1971. For some years from 1986, Enja functioned as two autonomous companies, for Winckelmann's releases see Enja Records Matthias Winckelmann GmbH. Sometimes credited (with Weber) as 'Weber / Winckelmann' in jazz album cover design credits.
