Their release "Get Down" (1999) used a sample from "D.I.S.C.O." originally performed by [a=Ottawan] The name 'Avant Garde' is derivated from [a=Daniel Vangarde] AKA [a=Daniel Bangalter], producer and composer for [a=Ottawan], but also the father of [a=Thomas Bangalter] from [a=Daft Punk]. Their second single, "Dont' Stop" (2001), used a sample from "Let's Groove" performed by [a=Earth Wind & Fire].
