Real Name: Derrick L. Carter
Derrick Carter (born October 21, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois) is a DJ, producer, and remixer known as an influential figure in the development of Chicago house music. He began DJing in his teens and worked at Gramophone Records in Chicago, becoming part of the local house scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Carter released music on [l=Cajual Records] and other labels, often under pseudonyms such as [a=Sound Patrol] and [a=Red Nail]. In 1995, he co-founded [l=Classic Music Company] with [a=Luke Solomon]. The label became known for its eclectic and quality-driven approach to house music. [l=Classic] was sold to [l=Defected Records] in 2010, though Carter and Solomon continued to be involved creatively. He also ran the labels [l=Blue Cucaracha] in the 1990s and [l=Persnickety Sounds] in the 2010s, focusing on edits and DJ-friendly tools.
