Scottish skiffle vocalist, banjo, washboard player, guitarist and songwriter, who was dubbed the “King Of Skiffle”.
Born April 29, 1931, Bridgeton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Died November 3, 2002, Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, England.
As a songwriter, he charted twelve times between 1956-69 in the U.S. & U.K. He co-wrote and sang on two #1 U.K. songs: "Gamblin' Man / Putting on the Style" in 1957 (co-written by Woody Guthrie & Norman Cazden); and "My Old Man's a Dustman (Ballad of a Refuse Disposal Officer)" in 1960 (co-written by Peter Buchanan & Beverley Thorne).
