Died May 31, 1967 in New York City, NY.
American composer, pianist and arranger, best known for his successful collaboration with bandleader and composer from 1939 to 1967. The compositions most closely associated with Strayhorn are "Take the 'A' Train", "Chelsea Bridge" and "Lush Life". Strayhorn was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984.
