His career began in the late 1950s and he had his first hit with [m=843865] in 1961. In 1967, he moved from [l=Scepter Records] to [l=Motown] to record a few singles there. During the 1970s, he recorded a few albums and singles on various labels including [l=ABC Records] and , but never gained as much success as in the 1960s. In the 1980s, he went to [l=EMI America] and sung vocals on two [a=Gary U.S. Bonds]'s hit albums and later recorded two singles for the [l=Motor City] label. He was 's cousin.
